Functional Safety Professional

TÜV SÜD originally developed the first functional safety certification program (formally CFSE - Certified Functional Safety Expert) in 1999. Since 1999 over 1000 professionals in the field of functional safety have been certified by TÜV SÜD.

The original certification program was meant for professionals in the process industry. Today functional safety is such a wide spread subject matter and applied in so many different industries that an expansion of the program has been undertaken. The program is now called the functional safety certification program (FSCP).

The objective of this review course is to train the delegates in the fundamental principles of functional safety and to get their competency in the functional safety standards certified by TÜV SÜD.

Functional Safety Professional is the main qualification from the FSCP and this particular stream of the program is aimed at the machinery and factory automation market.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND | Pre-requisites:

The Functional Safety Professional is an excellent qualification for engineers that need to deal with functional safety on a project basis. To achieve the qualification they need to meet the following criteria:

• 6 years experience in the applicable industry. Education gives credits:

• Bachelor degree deduct 2 years
• Masters degree deduct 3 years
• Ph.D. degree deduct 4 years

• Two references
• Attend the training course and successfully pass the associated exam

Exam Format:

• Closed book exam
• Multiple Choice: 60
• Open Questions: 25
• Pass criteria: 75% (64)

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Senior Product Specialist, TÜV SÜD

Stewart Robinson is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a member of the Institute of Measurement and Control. He was a member of the Safety Panel of the InstMC from 2007 and chaired that Panel for many years. He is also a member of the British Standards Institution committee that deals with machinery safeguarding (MCE/3) and is the UK expert for IEC 62061. He is listed as a Functional Safety Expert in the TÜV SÜD certification programme (I.D. TA13010249).

He has been delivering training courses for more than 25 years on various topics, mainly concerned with Industrial Control Systems but also on the general aspects of machinery safety.
