University Certificate in Professional Development (UCPD): European Machinery Safety Requirements

The UCPD was developed due to market demand for a recognised qualification in Machinery Safety. Over a number of years, TÜV SÜD clients asked whether they could receive accredited training that could be used towards their Professional Development. The demand was such that TÜV SÜD took the bold step towards producing this unique qualification.

16 week Distance Learning Assessment:

Following the course, their will be a 16 week period, during which the delegate will need to carry out the assessment package contained within the course folder. Delegates will need to complete a PUWER Checklist, carrying out a minimum of 25 risk assessments and then a CE EHSR checklist, carrying out a further 25 risk assessments. These completed assessments must be sent to TÜV SÜD in both hard copy and electronic formats to make up the delegate’s assessment portfolio.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

By the end of the course the participants will:

• Understand the fundamentals of the Machinery Directive and the defined steps to compliance including an introduction to the relevant EN standards.
• Understand the fundamentals of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations and defined steps to compliance.
• Be aware of the general and specific safety component mechanical and electrical EN standards which will allow further understanding where both disciplines of CE Marking and PUWER are concerned.
• Once the participants have completed the course and after successful completion of the assignment they will be awarded a certificate from Teesside University in European Machinery Safety Requirements.

The course is aimed at managers, engineers and duty holders who are involved in the purchasing, use and maintenance of machinery and carry out assessments of machinery as part of their job role.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

RICHARD BROOKS

Degree qualified in mechanical engineering, Richard has had over 25 years of experience in the subject of machinery safety. Starting with over a decade as a duty holder, being a machinery designer, responsible for complying with the legal requirements then moving into a consultancy role specialising in machinery safety over the last 15 years. Richard has work in a range of industries and assessed a wide range of machinery. He has also worked on the enforcement side of the fence for the Health and Safety Laboratory (now part of HSE). He has latterly moved into a training role in order to transfer knowledge and experience to a broader audience.
