IPEMA 3rd-Party Certification Program

In the interest of public safety, the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) provides third-party Product Certification services for the U.S. and Canadian public play equipment and U.S. public play surfacing materials. The services provide for the validation of a participants certification of conformance to one of the standards referenced herewith. Both programs are administered by TÜV SÜD America.

• ASTM F1487, excluding sections 7.1.1, 10 and 12.6.1 - Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Playground Equipment for Public use
• CAN/CSA-Z614, excluding clauses 9.8, 10, and 11 - Children’s Play Spaces and Equipment
• ASTM F1292 - Standard Specification for Impact Attenuation of Surface Systems Under and Around Playground Equipment
• ASTM F2075 - Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment

Benefits of IPEMA Membership

IPEMA is the only certifying body for the play industry in the U.S. IPEMA retains the services of lobbyists to monitor National and State Legislation and notifies members about important industry matters. IPEMA asks members to contact legislators on bills that are under consideration, which may affect the industry.

IPEMA currently works with a public relations firm to promote the value of play to the public, park officials, recreation officials, schools, etc. The annual IPEMA meeting gives members up-to-date association news, promotes the sharing of ideas, and helps its membership with networking opportunities throughout the industry
