Electrical hazards are present in every industry and occupancy. If not properly managed, electrical hazards have the potential to unexpectedly shut down your business or expose workers to unsafe conditions. Minimizing threats to operations and creating a safe environment for employees is of utmost importance to companies, and there are steps businesses can take to ensure their electrical practices are optimized.
According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), in 2017, electrical incidents caused over 2,200 injuries and 130 fatalities. These incidents occurred in a variety of industries, and most of the fatalities occurred from direct exposure to electricity while workers were repairing, constructing, or cleaning the equipment. Additionally, the untimely shutdown of electrical distribution equipment and primary mechanical systems often results in lost production, higher operating costs, dissatisfied customers, and lost profits. A robust electrical maintenance program, compliance with proper safety-related processes and implementing an electrical safety culture into the workplace can minimize these risks.
TÜV SÜD GRC offers 3 main services to support your facilities in achieving safety for electrical systems and staying complaint with relevant codes and standards.
Infrared Thermographic Surveys:
As a vital electrical maintenance procedure, Infrared Thermography is an effective, Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) inspection technique used to pinpoint concerns in complex industrial, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Arc Flash Analysis:
An arc flash risk assessment is performed to determine the incident energy produce when an electric current passes through the air between conductors or from a conductor to ground instead of its intended path. The energy produced is used to determine the personal protective equipment (PPE) required to protect an employee working on or around the electrical equipment.
Electrical Safety Training:
TÜV SÜD GRC's Electrical Safety Training programs are designed to enhance worker understanding of electrical hazards, reduce accidents associated with electrical work and prevent workplace injuries. The technical basis of our training is NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (2018).
